March-for-Meals: Local Officials Know Being There Matters™

By eNewsletter, March 2024 eNewsletter

Senator with a LifeCare Alliance associate

Each year we commemorate the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors ages 60 and older.

As part of our annual March-for-Meals commemoration, LifeCare Alliance is teaming with local elected officials for Community Champions Week, March 18-22. During this time local officials, politicians, and dignitaries will deliver Meals-on-Wheels in their communities. So don’t be surprised if you see your Mayor delivering lunch in your neighborhood!

Big Wheels: Behind the Scenes

By March 2024 eNewsletter

A woman at a gala dinner raising a paddleYou might’ve heard of our annual fundraiser, Big Wheels. But did you know this event has been helping LifeCare Alliance meet people where they live for going on 33 years now?

This long-standing event was introduced in 1991 as “Big Wheels Deliver Warm Winter Meals” and aimed to increase awareness of LifeCare Alliance’s services amongst Central Ohio business leaders. At its inception, attendees joined the agency for breakfast, a keynote speaker, and a tour, then ended their day with a hands-on service opportunity delivering Meals-on-Wheels. Local legends Cameron Mitchell, Alex Shumate, and Tami Longaberger all served as keynote speakers.

The event has transformed through the years, ultimately landing on what we know it to be today: Big Wheels, a gala-style fundraiser. As our foremost event of the year, Big Wheels raised over half a million dollars in 2023!

Thanks to the sponsors and in-kind donors, to the hundreds of guests, and to the thousands of moments being there for our clients, Big Wheels’ continued success empowers us to keep serving all our neighbors in need of a warm meal and compassionate support.

Our dedicated events team, consisting of staff and committee volunteers, is gearing up for our 2024 Big Wheels being held at our in-house event center, The Levee, and catered by L.A. Catering, our social enterprise, on Saturday, April 20th. If you’d like to learn more about the event click here: www.lifecarealliance.org/bigwheels/  For more information on sponsorship opportunities or in-kind donations, please reach out to Danielle Visconti at dvisconti@lifecarealliance.org or 614-437-2947.

Together We Have The Power To Do Even More!

By eNewsletter, March 2024 eNewsletter

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

To Margaret Mead’s point, have you ever wondered what impact a group of dedicated supporters of our organization could accomplish together? Well, in 2023, our LifeCare Alliance Spirit Society members collectively gave roughly $1,293,000. For impact reference, if every penny of that went to our Meals-On-Wheels program only, the Spirit Society would have paid for just under 20 percent of our yearly meals delivered to our neighbors, parents, and friends who are in need of a warm meal and daily check-in.

Of course not every penny donated by Spirit Society members goes to a single program!  As a nationally recognized nonprofit, we offer services spanning Nutrition, Health and Support, all working together to restore a sense of stability and self-reliance to our clients. As put by a Spirit Society member: “LifeCare Alliance offers the best range of services to a wide circle of individuals, doing so in a well-managed and economically sustainable method.”

It’s important to us that you know your money is going to an enterprising and resourceful organization. That’s why Spirit Society members are invited to exclusive events twice a year and receive quarterly updates from our President & CEO, Chuck Gehring. That way we keep you informed of how you are making an impact in your community!

To join the Spirit Society, you simply donate $1,000 or more each year. That’s only $83.34 each month! If you’d like to “set it and forget it”, you can establish a recurring monthly donation by visiting www.lifecarealliance.org/donate.
