The Central Ohio Diabetes Association helps Central Ohioans living with diabetes detect their condition, prevent onset and complications, and learn to live well with the challenge of diabetes.
Founded by a group of local physicians, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association has provided service to the Central Ohio community for 53 years. Since merging in 2017, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association is now an agency of LifeCare Alliance.

Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support

Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support (DSMES) is the gold standard in diabetes education and an important part of managing your diabetes well. This program is also recommended for those with pre-diabetes.

In this series we discuss treatment options, nutrition, medications, insulin, monitoring blood glucose, preventing and treating complications, physical activity, the emotional aspect of diabetes, behavior goals, and management strategies.

This series also will be offered Aug. 15, 22, and 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support (DSMES) Follow-Up Session will be led by Brenda Rendelman, RDN, CDE.   We’ll discuss the following during the session:

  • Review meal planning and carbohydrate servings per meal
  • Keys to controlling the Big Three:  Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, and Blood Fats (Cholesterol and Triglycerides)
  • Strategies to help you achieve your diabetes and health goals
  • Managing weight
  • Diabetes Online Community:  resources for support and information
  • Questions and Answers

If you have had an A1C test since you completed our DSMES series, please bring the result with you.

Swing for Diabetes

Location: Hickory Hills Golf Club, Grove City

This full-day event includes 18 holes of golf, cart, several contests, prizes, lunch, and an evening awards reception with dinner.

All proceeds benefit the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, including youth/teen camps, adult programs and support services.

Santa Speedo Dash

Santa Speedo Dash for Diabetes

Saturday, Dec. 8
Location: McFerson Commons Park, Downtown Columbus

The Santa Speedo Dash for Diabetes fundraising event is a 5K/1-mile through downtown Columbus. This race is teeming with Christmas spirit, as hundreds of runners and walkers take to the chilly streets in holiday-themed Speedos, elf costumes, Santa gear, and the like.

All proceeds benefit the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, including youth/teen camps, adult programs and support services.
