Route Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for maintaining and monitoring Meals-on-Wheels (MOW) efficient routes that comply with quality standards as per agency policies and procedures.  This includes assignment of clients to appropriate routes, sequencing delivery of meal stops, documenting helpful delivery instructions, providing reports for program use, notifying customers of scheduled delivery day(s) and approximate delivery timing, and creating new customer informational packets.  Work requires an attention to detail, excellent mapping and computer skills and an ability to handle multiple functions at one time and in a timely manner. This position will have frequent contact with volunteers, customers, program staff and drivers, and the general public.  This position requires an understanding of seniors and disabled/chronically ill individuals.  A positive and cooperative image and attitude is crucial for this position.  Work performed is in collaboration with all Nutrition Programs staff, including the Transportation Manager, Driver Supervisors, Customer Care Specialists and is performed under the general supervision of the Nutrition Programs Director.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for all sequencing of new and existing customers on MOW and cargo routes with the objective of providing an efficient delivery experience. This includes cargo route stops, daily delivery routes, weekly frozen routes, and weekend routes, in LifeCare Alliance’s service area of Champaign, Franklin, Logan, Madison, and Marion counties.
  • Responsible for notifying customers and case managers of scheduled delivery day(s) and approximate delivery timing and for creating new customer informational packets.
  • Responsible for generating monthly route size and length statistics that are shared with Agency leadership.
  • Responsible for organizing and monitoring regular temperature tests on all MOW and cargo routes.
  • Responsible for providing emergency, backup delivery of MOW and cargo routes.
  • Performs other departmental and agency functions as necessary. This includes assisting with the orientation and training of departmental staff, attending agency functions, attending and participating in departmental and other meetings and committees as necessary and performing other assignments as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily in Agency office, dock, and some client homes generally between Agency opening and closing, M-F.   Employee is required to travel in all types of weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred. One-year experience working in logistics, mapping, and/or route delivery required. Intermediate computer skills using a mapping software application, as well as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel required.  Employee must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment.  Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Ohio Driver’s License, acceptable driving record, and adequate vehicle insurance to cover Meals-on-Wheels delivery.  Preferred experience working with older adults and disabled/chronically ill individuals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of central Ohio highways and roads.
  • Ability to research and design efficient maps and routes.
  • Capable of sequencing stops on a route in an efficient and logical manner.
  • Knowledge of proficient and safe driving techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of computer using mapping programs.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment.
  • Good customer relations skills. Ability to communicate over the telephone, in person, and in writing with a diverse public.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to be flexible and cope with last-minute schedule and route changes.
  • Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
