Being proactive helps avoid onset of Type 2 diabetes

Phyllis Durgham has been surrounded by family members struggling with diabetes for years.

It is a common belief amongst people that if you have family members diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, you will eventually be diagnosed with Type 2 yourself. Phyllis, on the other hand, refused to be just another statistic.

Knowing she was at high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, she took action and searched for resources that would help her prevent the onset of diabetes all together. Eventually, she found LifeCare Alliance’s Dietitian services at the Clintonville Resource Center — one of the eight LifeCare Alliance wellness centers located in Columbus. Going through the 8-week intensive diabetes prevention program, Phyllis was able to learn the basics of diabetes, how nutrition and exercise affected her health, and how small, healthy changes could make a positive impact.

To date, Phyllis has only had very positive results when getting her blood sugar checked at the many community wellness events that she attends.

If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about diabetes and how to stay one step ahead, please reach out to LifeCare Alliance at 614-278-3130 or the Central Ohio Diabetes Association at 614-884-4400. It is never too late to take action.
