POSITION:  Volunteer Dining Center Coordinator

PURPOSE: 
The Volunteer Dining Center Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operations and activities at a LifeCare dining center to meet the special needs of the older people in the community. 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Community Program Coordinator

DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES:

1. Coordinate dining center operations as assigned, including new client registration, meal ordering and supervising other volunteers.

2. Plan and organize social, recreational and educational activities that will attract and sustain the interest of older adults.

3. Assist with providing program information and publicity to reach elderly target population. 

4. Perform follow-up on participants.

5. Maintain a support network with LifeCare Alliance staff and other community resources to assist older people with their changing needs.

6. Assist volunteer home delivery drivers originating from the center, if needed.

7. Enforce established policies regarding appropriate behavior at the center.

8. Communicate with LifeCare Driver Supervisors and LifeCare?s transportation managers in monitoring meal and client delivery to the center.

9. Perform essential tasks that must be accomplished at the site.

10. Assist in nutrition education programs.

11. Assist in collecting donations.

12. Coordinate services with clients, other program staff, other agency staff and staff from other community agencies.

13. Attend dining center coordinator meetings and in-service training.

14. Assist LifeCare Volunteer Manager in recruiting, training, supervising and encouraging volunteers to participate at the site in the following areas:   set-up, registering participants, greeter, meal servers, clean-up and persons to assist you in planning, scheduling and carrying out activities, crafts, entertainment, etc. as offered at your dining center location.

15. Perform all other duties as assigned.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to use mature judgment and to be sensitive when relating to volunteers, older adults and the community.

2. Possess supervisory and leadership skills.

3. Have knowledge of LifeCare Alliance services and benefits as they relate to center participants.

4. Ability to work with minimum supervision.

5. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with LifeCare Alliance staff.

6. Must possess good communication skills.

7. Ability to prepare and maintain adequate records and reports.


TIME REQUIRED:
Volunteer in dining center site consisting of senior citizens, volunteers and other personnel.  Work two to four hours per day, generally between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM Monday through Friday.  Hours and days varied according to dining center requirements. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Some college education preferred or an associate degree in psychology, sociology or related field preferred. 

2. One year experience as a supervisor of two or more people, and  previous experience planning community activities, volunteering and working with adults is preferred.  

3. Previous experience as a community volunteers on an ongoing assignment preferred.

POSITION:    Volunteer Dining Center Program Aide

PURPOSE:    Assist the Dining Center Coordinator with all duties, before, during and after the meal service.

RESPONSIBLE TO:    Dining Center Coordinator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. To encourage socialization among dining center participants.
B. To follow established procedures in helping the Dining Center Coordinator with the following:
     1. Set-up:  Get tables in place, set out salt and pepper shakers, napkins, and centerpieces.
     2. Registrar:  Register participants, keep attendance sheet and take reservations for the next meal served.
     3. Greeter:  Welcome participants as they come into the dining center.  Be friendly and polite.
     4. Serve meals:  Meal, beverage, and bread.
     5. Clean-up:  Collect meal carrier bag(s).  Wipe off tables and counters, clean coffee pots.  Sweep floors, arrange   chairs.  Dispose of trash.
     6. With the assistance of the Coordinator, plan, schedule, and carry out activities, crafts, entertainment, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 1. Ability to communicate well.

 2.  Must be dependable and responsible.
 
 3.  Enjoy working with older adults.

 4.  Must be flexible and able to get along well with others.

 5.  Knowledge of sanitary food handling techniques.


TIME REQUIREMENTS:
 Available before, during and after meal serving time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A desire to give assistance and supportive care to older adults.

POSITION:     Volunteer Activities Assistant  

PURPOSE:      Assistant with activities and special events at dining center locations  

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Dining Center Coordinator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1. To encourage socialization among dining center participants.

2. Plan and execute craft classes, exercise classes, educational activities, parties or other special events.

3. Assist in executing parties and special events initiated by LifeCare Alliance or the dining center coordinator.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to use mature judgment and to be sensitive when relating to volunteers, older adults and the community.

2. Possess supervisory and leadership skills.

3. Have knowledge of LifeCare Alliance services and benefits as they relate to center participants.

PURPOSE:    To work with the LifeCare Meal Program in the community by assisting the    Dining Center Coordinator in registering participants.

RESPONSIBLE TO:    Dining Center Coordinator, LifeCare meals staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Check with the Dining Center Coordinator each day for any corrections in meals ordered from the previous day and change attendance sheets accordingly.
2. Welcome all participants each day.
3. Registrar participants as they arrive at the dining center and record their next reservation using established attendance sheet procedures.
4. Pass out contribution envelopes.
5. If person has no reservation, give them a standby number.

       1.  Good record-keeping skills.

       2.  Must be dependable and responsible.
 
       3.  Enjoy working with older adults.

       4.  Must be flexible and able to get along well with others.
