Meals-on-Wheels Job Description

      

POSITION:  Meals-on-Wheels Volunteer Driver                                                                                   

PURPOSE:   To enable older adults and chronically ill to stay in their own homes by delivering meals to those unable to prepare their own.

RESPONSIBLE TO:   Volunteer Services Department of the LifeCare Alliance Meals Program. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Training:
a. Attend an orientation.
b. Go on a route accompanied by a trainer to become familiar with procedures.
c. Attend yearly updates.

2. Deliver meals:
a. Weekdays: pick up meals in your neighborhood and deliver to your homebound neighbors.
b. Weekends: pick up meals from drop off sites in Dublin, Gahanna, or LifeCare Alliance and deliver to those who are homebound.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. The ability to read maps and follow instructions.
2. Relate to older adults and chronically ill.
3. Adapt to different lifestyles and circumstances.
4. Develop approachability skills and compassion for others.

TIME REQUIREMENTS: Approximately two hours to deliver a route.  Schedule arranged for weekday or weekend based on availability.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid driver's license.
2. Willing to drive your own car.
3. Maintain adequate insurance.
4. Completion of volunteer orientation and required documents.
5. A desire to give assistance and supportive care to older adults.
